Corvus Cornix Basketball Club Awards Evening 2012.
Royston basketball club Corvus Cornix celebrated the previous season’s success on Friday 12th October with an awards presentation evening. Members of the club from all age groups were present for the ceremony with club chairman Ken Charles leading proceedings. All members of the Under 17 Junior squad were honoured for their fine performances in the Junior Central Venue League that was held at the Royston Leisure Centre over the course of the year. The Junior’s coach Grant Connell was also honoured for all of his effort with his team over the year. Young Sports Leaders from Greneway Middle School, Meridian and Freman College were awarded trophies for their efforts in helping with the coaching sessions. These were Eleanor Bishop, Jamie Stimson, Anna Worsey and Charlie Stimson.
The 2011-2012 Volunteer of the Year award went to Club coach Richard Pallant, who as well as coaching the mini basketball sessions, running the seniors in their matches in the East Herts Friday night league, refereeing the Juniors in their competitions, also maintains the clubs website.
Coaches from the club nominated players for their player(s) of the year with Madison Lawrence winning for the Micros, Elliot McClean and Dina Parcell winning the Mini Basketball awards, Matt Davis winning the Junior Basketball Player of the Year and Oliver Shepherd winning the most improved player. Ashley Judge won the Senior’s award. The Juniors also voted for a players player of the year with Sam Robinson winning the trophy.
The final award of the evening was the Personality of the Year award with a trophy steeped in history dating back over 30 years to 1981. The winner of the trophy was club coach Terry Graves for his dedication to the club.
