Giant Snowball

The snow fell around the north side of Hitchin and created a great opportunity for the young and old to enjoy themselves on Sunday (5th Feb). Many children and adults took part in sledging, snowball fights and made snowmen on Oughtonhead Green. However the credit for the largest snowball of the day goes to Sam Rees, Douglas Morgan, Owen Shipley and Jacob Moralee.

They started their mammoth creation at the very top of Lavender Way and by the time it had been rolled down to the green at the bottom it was nearly three feet in diameter and took all four of them to roll it over. Further assistance was required to push it over the kerb and onto the top of the steep bank before it was ceremonially pushed over the edge. Everyone cheered as it rolled down the slope and eventually broke into large pieces at the bottom of the bank, providing the children with additional snow for their sledging in the process. Applause all round for the commitment and considerable efforts.
