A group of Year 8 and 9 Marlborough Art students some Gifted and Talented have been involved with an after school art group to design and paint a mural for the hoardings at the new swimming pool at Westminster Lodge (see above). The Arts Award is a personal achievement award for the students which is a proof of their ability, what they have learnt and to enrich others. They have visited the Tate Modern as part of the Award and will also have to deliver a lesson starter or ending based on their experiences. The mural art project was organised by Melissa Caneppele, Arts Development Officer and involved several primary schools and Marlborough School Science College. The theme was Olympics and all the students had their own ideas and pictures incorporated in the one large 15m painting. This was launched on Friday 16th March and the students and their parents came to Westminster Lodge to see their art work unveiled. The Marlborough students had 6 boards to paint over and they have really enjoyed the work. The students feel it will liven up the area and it is nice that street art can be viewed differently and not just be about graffiti. They are proud to have a piece of Marlborough’s art work on display for the general public to see.
